IIS is proud to be one of only two schools in Singapore to offer Two Educational Streams! Besides our Mainstream, we provide highly, specialized teaching to children with Learning Differences and Developmental Delays.
Our Philosophy:
The philosophy at IIS is that every child is entitled to a good quality, enriching education and that every child is part of our community. Our faculty believe that every child has the potential to be successful given an opportunity and the right learning approach. The S.T.A.R.S. Stream achieves this by combining a solid academic programme with remediation of lagging skills. We also provide opportunities for each student to develop mastery in areas of special interest and giftedness. The philosophy of our S.T.A.R.S. teachers is best demonstrated through our proverb:
Why STARS is Successful:
The uniqueness of the IIS S.T.A.R.S. Stream is its therapeutic setting with psychologists, behaviorists and teachers working together in the classroom and with parents. The reason why our success rates for progression are so high is because our approach is centered around four core goals:
Ownership of
(1) academic competence
(2) self-regulation and self-awareness
(3) relationship development
(4) executive functioning
The hallmark of IIS is that it is a kind of school that any child looks forward to attending because teachers do not just see "another student" but they appreciate and have a deep curiosity to discover each child's personality, strengths and needs.

The Support (STARS) Stream:
The S.T.A.R.S. stream accepts children (a) who are struggling to keep up in a mainstream system, (b) who exhibit behavioural problems and/or (c) who have been diagnosed with a childhood disorder. Our S.T.A.R.S. stream is highly unique in that our teacher to student ratio is 1:3 in a group setting. Our firm belief that every child possesses the potential to succeed, drives our staff to implement a mainstream curriculum but at each individual child's pace and ability levels. The students in the S.T.A.R.S. stream are privy to a balance of individualised attention and concurrently encouraged independence. As part of the STARS stream, students (who require it), receive weekly Naturalistic ABA therapy which combines communication/language therapy with behavioral therapy. Specifically, Naturalistic ABA targets:
1) functional speech and language
2) social skills, attention and motivation
3) gross & fine motor skills
4) contextual and symbolic comprehension
5) functional, spontaneous and symbolic play skills
In-House Transitions:
The luxury of being a small school is that two options for integrating those students who are deemed ready into the Mainstream exist.
